A year

A year of joy.

In the past, a year would pass by without much fanfare.  Not too much excitement in a year for two adults, one life together.  Sure, vacations are great.  Celebrations are anticipated.  Good times had by all.

This past year with a little one of our own has completely transformed the way we see one year.

So much has happened in this one year since the birth of our little guy.  He's gone from relying completely on me inside the womb and outside nursing, crying to communicate his needs, tensing and relaxing his little body, to toddling around, eating whatever we offer him, communicating his needs using language (!!!!!), developing incredible social milestones (joint attention - yay!).

We rejoice every day for our little guy.  We take no moment for granted.  He is a gift.  He is our son.

For his birthday, we celebrated by taking him to the local aquarium.  We wanted to do something together as a family and thought he'd enjoy looking at the creatures swimming around.  He was waaayyyyy more interested in the other children at the aquarium.  hahaha.  This kid has excellent social cognition.

There is also a rainforest section at the aquarium.  He liked the tree monkeys too.  One of his favourite toys (see previous photo) is a little monkey stuffed animal.  It's called coffee monkey because of its huge eyes.  Kbao thinks its super funny for some reason.

Here's a little family pic :)  We let him smash a slice of mango cake too.  He enjoyed shoving his finger into the centre, then smearing it all over his hair.  He did eat some, I think.

We have loved being parents.  For all of it.  Even the ugly parts.
